In the vibrant realm of social media, Instagram stands as a one of the most popular platforms where stories are made, and every post has the potential to spark a connections all over the globe – how lovely hey?
But one question remains on many of my clients lips. Should you embrace the art of batch scheduling to streamline your content creation process?
Before we get to the juicy bit, let’s take a check back on how we got to where we are today.
The Rise of Instagram
When Instagram emerged as a photo-sharing app, it captivated many followers of sharing snippets of their daily lives and cups of coffee and delicious lunches. Over the years, it evolved into a dynamic platform where influencers, businesses, and creatives share their stories. As Instagram grew, so did the complexities of content creation. The demand for consistent, high-quality posts became a challenge, prompting creators to explore strategies like batch scheduling.
The Batch Scheduling Dilemma
To batch or not to batch, that is the question. Batch scheduling involves creating and scheduling multiple posts in advance, allowing creators to maintain a consistent presence without the daily overwhelm. However, whilst many argue that it brings efficiency and creativity, sceptics raise the story about spontaneity and real-time engagement.
As someone who loves the data, let’s dive in. According to a study by Hootsuite, brands that post consistently on Instagram witness higher engagement rates. However, a counterargument surfaces from a Buffer analysis, suggesting that real-time content might outperform scheduled posts in terms of interactions.
The Data Speaks
Numbers don’t lie, or so they say. A survey conducted by Social Media Today reveals that 64% of marketers schedule posts in advance (me included on my Done For You service). This statistic implies a widespread acceptance of batch scheduling as a viable strategy. On the other hand, a Sprout Social report emphasizes the importance of real-time engagement, indicating that 45% of consumers expect a response within an hour of reaching out to a brand on social media.
The Algorithm Conundrum
Instagram’s ever-evolving algorithm adds a layer of complexity to our narrative. Batch scheduling may offer consistency, but does it align with the algorithm’s preference for real-time, engaging content? Insights from Instagram’s business guide and updates from the algorithm’s changes can provide a compass to navigate this digital maze, however, this changes frequently.
Conclusion.
As our Instagram saga unfolds, the debate between batch scheduling and real-time engagement persists. The answer lies in understanding your audience, analysing the data, and striking a balance that aligns with your content creation goals.
Personally, I love to have a plan on what I’m scheduling, whether I post on the day or a week or two in advance. If I’m on a roll then I go with the batch scheduling. However, where my Done For You clients are concerned, I prefer to batch schedule whilst I am working on their project. But also having the freedom to post should something resonate with you that day that you want to share.
Will you embrace the convenience of batch scheduling, or dance to the rhythm of real-time engagement? The choice is yours.
